Amazon Business Reports: AI Prompts to Turn Seller Central Reports into Decisions

By Sophie Brooks12 min read14 prompts

Most sellers open Business Reports, glance at the Sales Dashboard, see that sales went down and close the tab. The columns that explain why, Sessions, Unit Session Percentage and Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage, sit one click deeper in reports that download as CSV files.

These prompts turn those exports into decisions: which ASINs lost traffic, conversion or the Featured Offer, and what to do about each this week. Every prompt names the report, the columns and the rules, so you get a table you can act on instead of a generic summary.

In Seller Central go to Reports, then Business Reports, pick the report and date range, download the CSV and paste it under the prompt, replacing each bracketed placeholder. Business Reports need a Professional selling account, and the latest day or two can still change, so leave them out of trends.

Which Business Report answers which question

The menu splits into reports by date and by ASIN. Picking the wrong one is the most common reason an AI analysis goes sideways.

Prompt 1 · Which Business Report answers which questionChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon analytics lead who knows Seller Central Business Reports well. My question is: [describe your problem, for example sales fell 20% last week on my best-selling product]. Tell me which Business Report to download (Sales and Traffic by date, Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Parent Item or by Child Item), what date range and comparison period to use, and which columns I need. Add any report I need from outside Business Reports, such as an ads or returns report. Keep it to a short checklist.

Preparing the export before you analyze it

The CSVs carry percentages as text, currency symbols in sales columns, and separate mobile app, browser and B2B columns. A cleaning step stops the model from treating 12.5% as text or adding parents to children.

Prompt 2 · Preparing the export before you analyze itChatGPT Claude
Act as a data analyst preparing an Amazon Business Reports export for analysis. Here is my Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item CSV for [date range]: [paste CSV]. Before any analysis: convert percentage and currency columns to numbers, list every column you found and what you think it means, flag rows with zero sessions but nonzero units, flag duplicate child ASINs, and tell me if the file looks truncated. Show the top five rows by sessions as a check and wait for my confirmation before analyzing.

Tip: Download two equal periods, such as the last 28 days and the 28 before, and paste them as labeled blocks. Most prompts below need a before and after.

Traffic and conversion: Sessions, Page Views and Unit Session Percentage

Sales on a detail page break down into four parts: sessions, conversion, units per order and price. Sessions count visits, Page Views count pages viewed, and Unit Session Percentage is units ordered divided by sessions. It can exceed 100% when shoppers buy several units, which is why it is not the same as an order conversion rate.

Prompt 3 · Traffic and conversion: Sessions, Page Views and Unit Session PercentaChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon growth analyst. Here is my Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item report for two periods, [period A] and [period B], with child ASIN, title, Sessions - Total, Page Views - Total, Units Ordered, Unit Session Percentage and Ordered Product Sales: [paste both periods]. For every ASIN with at least [100] sessions, break the change in Ordered Product Sales into four effects: sessions, Unit Session Percentage, units per order and average price. Show which effect explains most of the change. Output a table sorted by dollar change and a short note on the top five losers.

Why: Traffic problems point to ranking, ads or seasonality; conversion problems point to price, reviews, images or the Featured Offer.

Prompt 4 · Traffic and conversion: Sessions, Page Views and Unit Session PercentaChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon listing strategist. Using my child item report for the last [30] days with Sessions - Total and Unit Session Percentage: [paste report], place every ASIN with at least [100] sessions into one of four quadrants, using my account median for each metric as the dividing line: high traffic and high conversion (protect), high traffic and low conversion (fix the listing), low traffic and high conversion (buy more traffic), low traffic and low conversion (review whether to keep). For each quadrant, list the ASINs and the single most useful action. Do not recommend price cuts without noting the margin impact.

Tip: For the fix-the-listing group, take the ASINs straight into our listing optimization prompts.

Prompt 5 · Traffic and conversion: Sessions, Page Views and Unit Session PercentaChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon conversion analyst. My child item report includes Sessions - Mobile App and Sessions - Browser, with their percentages, alongside Units Ordered and Unit Session Percentage: [paste report]. For my top [20] ASINs by sessions, show the mobile app share of sessions and compare it with my account average. Flag ASINs with a mobile share well above average and below-average conversion, and list what to check on the mobile detail page for each: main image legibility, the first lines of the title, the first bullet and price visibility. Output a table and a short checklist.
Prompt 6 · Traffic and conversion: Sessions, Page Views and Unit Session PercentaChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon catalog manager. Here is my Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Parent Item report and the child item report for the same period: [paste both]. For each parent, show how sessions and units split across its children and which child converts best. Flag children that take a large share of sessions but convert far below their siblings, and children that convert well but get few sessions. Recommend which child should be the default variation shown and which children to review for removal. Note: do not assume the child rows add up to the parent row; compare shares within each report.

Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage shows how often your offer was the featured one on the detail page during the period. If you are the only seller and your offer is eligible, it should sit near 100%. A drop means a competing offer, a price that Amazon considers uncompetitive, or an availability or eligibility issue. A drop on a high-traffic ASIN costs far more than the same drop on a slow one.

Prompt 7 · Featured Offer (Buy Box) PercentageChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon marketplace analyst. Here is my child item report for two periods with child ASIN, Page Views - Total, Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage, Units Ordered and Ordered Product Sales: [paste both periods]. List every ASIN where Featured Offer Percentage fell by more than [5] points. For each, estimate the page views I lost the Featured Offer on (page views times the drop in percentage) and the sales at risk at my current conversion. Rank by sales at risk. Then tell me what to check first for each ASIN: other offers on the listing, my price versus recent prices, stock and fulfillment, and account health notices.

Tip: For a full root cause on a lost Featured Offer, use our Buy Box prompts. Review any price change the model suggests against your margin before making it.

The Sales and Traffic report by date is the account-level view. It usually also carries refund, feedback and A-to-z claim columns, so it is the fastest place to spot an account-wide problem.

Prompt 8 · Account trends, refunds and feedback by dateChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon operations analyst looking for anomalies. Here is my Sales and Traffic report by date for the last [120] days with Ordered Product Sales, Units Ordered, Total Order Items, Sessions, Unit Session Percentage and Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage: [paste report]. Flag days where any metric is more than [2] standard deviations from its 28-day rolling average. For each flagged day, say which metrics moved together and suggest a likely explanation from this list: promotion or deal, ad budget cap, stock-out, Featured Offer loss, holiday or seasonal shift, or tracking delay. Mark days I should investigate first.

Tip: Add known events, such as deals, price changes and stock-outs, to turn guesses into confirmed explanations.

Prompt 9 · Account trends, refunds and feedback by dateChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon customer experience analyst. Here is my Sales and Traffic report by date for the last [6] months with Units Ordered, Units Refunded, Refund Rate, Feedback Received, Negative Feedback Received and A-to-z claims columns: [paste report]. Show monthly trends for refund rate and negative feedback rate, and flag any month that moved sharply. Name the follow-up report that shows the ASINs behind it, such as the FBA customer returns report, and what to look for. One table, five bullets.
Prompt 10 · Account trends, refunds and feedback by dateChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon promotions analyst. I ran [describe the promotion or price change] from [start date] to [end date]. Here is daily Sales and Traffic data for the four weeks before, the promotion period and the two weeks after, with Ordered Product Sales, Units Ordered, Sessions and Unit Session Percentage: [paste report]. Compare average daily sessions, conversion, units and sales across the three periods. Tell me whether the lift held after the promotion ended, and whether it came from more traffic or better conversion. Other events in this window: [list events].

B2B columns and Amazon Business buyers

If you sell to Amazon Business customers, the child item and by-date reports include B2B versions of the main columns, such as Units Ordered - B2B, Ordered Product Sales - B2B and Unit Session Percentage - B2B.

Prompt 11 · B2B columns and Amazon Business buyersChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon Business channel analyst. Here is my child item report with both total and B2B columns for sessions, units ordered, Unit Session Percentage and Ordered Product Sales: [paste report]. For each ASIN, calculate the B2B share of sales and compare B2B conversion with total conversion. List ASINs where business buyers convert better than average and ASINs with meaningful B2B traffic but weak B2B conversion. Suggest what to test for each group, such as quantity discounts or business pricing, and remind me to check current Amazon Business eligibility and pricing rules in Seller Central Help.

From reports to a weekly decision list

Business Reports show what shoppers did on your pages, not what you spent to get them there, so put them next to your ads data. Our guide to making sense of Amazon analytics covers the wider picture.

Prompt 12 · From reports to a weekly decision listChatGPT Claude
Act as an Amazon advertising and organic growth analyst. Here is my child item report for [period] with Units Ordered and Ordered Product Sales: [paste report]. Here is my Sponsored Products advertised product report for the same period with ASIN, spend, 7-day total sales and 7-day total units: [paste ads report]. For each ASIN, estimate the share of units and sales that came from ads and the share that did not, and calculate ad spend as a percentage of total Ordered Product Sales. Flag ASINs where ad-attributed sales are close to or above total sales, which usually means attribution overlap, and treat those estimates as rough. Rank ASINs by organic share.
Prompt 13 · From reports to a weekly decision listChatGPT Claude
Act as a head of e-commerce writing my Monday review. Use these Business Reports exports for last week and the week before: Sales and Traffic by date [paste] and Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item [paste]. Write a one-page review: totals with week-over-week change, the five ASINs that gained the most sales and why, the five that lost the most and why (traffic, conversion or Featured Offer), and a decision list of no more than five actions with an owner and a due date for each. Do not invent numbers that are not in the data; write "not in data" instead.
Prompt 14 · From reports to a weekly decision listChatGPT Claude
Act as a spreadsheet builder. Design a Google Sheets tracker I can paste a weekly Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item export into. Give me: the tab layout, the exact formulas for week-over-week change in sessions, Unit Session Percentage, Featured Offer Percentage and Ordered Product Sales, conditional formatting rules that turn a cell red when sessions drop more than [20]% or Featured Offer Percentage drops more than [5] points, and a summary tab that lists flagged ASINs automatically. Assume my column headers are: [paste your header row].

Why: A weekly tracker catches slow declines a single week never shows.

FAQ

What are Amazon Business Reports?

Business Reports are the sales and traffic reports in Seller Central under Reports, then Business Reports. They show sessions, page views, units ordered, sales, conversion and Featured Offer Percentage, by date or by ASIN.

Which Seller Central report shows sessions and conversion by ASIN?

Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item shows sessions, page views, Unit Session Percentage and Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage for each child ASIN.

What is Unit Session Percentage on Amazon?

Unit Session Percentage is units ordered divided by sessions for the period. It can go above 100% when shoppers buy multiple units, so it is not the same as an order conversion rate.

What is a good Unit Session Percentage?

There is no single benchmark, because conversion varies widely by category, price and traffic source. Compare each ASIN with its own history and with your other ASINs in the same category.

It shows how often your offer was the featured offer on the detail page during the period. A sole seller with an eligible offer should be near 100%; a drop points to a competing offer, price or availability issue.

Why don't Business Reports match my payments?

Ordered Product Sales records sales when orders are placed, before refunds, fees and adjustments. Your payments and settlement reports record money when it is paid out, so the two will not match line for line.
